It all began with a dragonfly and a mother’s memory.
When my friend Barbara and her sister reached out, they asked for something special to honor their late mother, Donna, whose favorite insect was the dragonfly. I immediately said yes. But then came the real question: What could I possibly make that would do justice to something so meaningful?
With no clear plan but a heart full of purpose, I headed to the only store nearby — Walmart. I wandered the craft aisle, gathering beads, wire, and anything that sparked a possibility. Back home, I began experimenting. The first dragonfly? A total flop. Wings fell off. Wire twisted wrong. Beads wouldn’t hold. But I kept going. I chose blue faceted beads, Donna’s favorite color, and tried again. And again. After a month of trial and error, I finally created a prototype that felt right. Donna’s daughters gave their heartfelt approval, and I got to work. I made 90 dragonflies in time for Donna’s funeral. Every single one was taken.
That moment changed everything.
The overwhelming response especially on Facebook and Marketplace showed me I had something real. Something that resonated. Donna’s Dragonflies was born not just from creativity but from remembrance, love, and connection.
Today, each handcrafted dragonfly carries a story. And tomorrow? There’s more to come. I’m so glad you’re here to be part of it.
